SuncrestReef
Just curious...Are you relying solely on your Apex for temperature/heater control, or does your heater have a built-in thermostat? My heaters don't have any thermostat, so I recently added the BRS (Ink Bird) controller as a safe guard in case my Apex temp probe fails.
shaywood
Yes I am. Good point. I've seen comments that the way you're doing it is best. I do have two finnex heaters (one comes on if the primary fails). Guess the risk is if the Apex gets stuck in the on position. I know its a risk, but at some point adding more equipment isn't the best either.
albertareef
Given that loss of temp control is one of the fastest ways to destroy a tank it’s worth considering keeping the inkbird as a primary control with the apex as secondary safety Shut off outlet when out of temp range). That’s basically how I’m set up as well (different equipment but same scheme) Just a thought.
shaywood
You convinced me! SuncrestReef provided me some APEX code to control the heater. The external controller will be the backup, since APEX more accurately controls temp.
