December Meeting 2019

Recommended Posts

Well folks, it is getting closer to the end of the 2019 year and you know what that means for the PNWMAS club don't you!?

The December Holiday Party!!!

Where - Walery's Premium Pizza 1555 Edgewater St NW, Salem, OR 97304

When - December 14th Saturday from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM.

What - Meet and Greet, Gift Exchange, Raffle, Food, and Fun!

As usual, the club will order a few pizzas and pitchers to get the festivities started off with, but with the counter to the pizzeria just 15 feet away you should be able to get whatever you need conveniently. Being a pizza fan I like finding what a friend likes and going in on a pizza to share, variety is the spice of life right?

And for those who are new to the annual event know that we will have a White elephant gift exchange to get in on! To participate we recommend bringing a wrapped item someone might appreciate of a $10-$15 value. We will draw numbers to dictate the order of handing out the gifts, and allow for one optional "theft" of a previous opened present per person. If you have not participated in a white elephant gift exchange before, this may all sound funny, but I assure you it is a riot of a game where everybody has a good time and walks away with something to remember.

In addition to the gift exchange and all around festivities we will have some amazing prizes from our awesome sponsors and our PNWMAS club, you know we never disappoint. So make sure to grab some extra raffle tickets and win it big!

Stay tuned for more updates and additions to the raffle prize roster, you all know the PNWMAS December party is always a Hoot!

Indeed. There are typically at least a few younger folk at the holiday meeting.  While there aren't specific activities planned the location has a game room if they happen to get bored with reef talk 😁  There will be beer there just for full disclosure.  Here is the website for the venue... http://waleryspizza.com

Anyone need a new BRS Reverse Osmosis Water unit!? Because we will have one in the raffle this December meeting!

BRS RODI unit.jpg

We all need good clean water to start our aquariums with and these guys get the job done.

Already got one!? Well then, just stay tuned for some of the other goodies we will be adding to the raffle roster, I think this year we will have a little something that everyone can use.

Indeed - some really nice raffle prizes this year (or so I've heard 😁).  You will definitely want to make sure you find time to make it down to the party if possible.

Or maybe some one out there could use a little lighting upgrade for their system, something like a...

Reefi DUo Extreme LED light.jpg

REEFI Duo Extreme LED!

I have to admit, I have been wanting to try one of these myself since they hit the shelves earlier this year. Always fun to play with new technology that is functional, and looks good too.

Whats that!? You don't need a new light? Then just wait until I tell you about a couple more awesome raffle prizes that will be at the December holiday meeting.

These are sweet lights!  We are lucky to have Daniel as part of the club so we get to see these beauties in person.

Been a long time since I could make a meeting. But the nursery is finally closed on Saturday and the meeting is about 15 minuets from my house!

Just a reminder, this annual meeting is under a week away, get that day marked off on your calendar ASAP if you have not already. And with that being said, here is an update on those much sought after raffle items the PNWMAS club has lined up.

Now for those of you who already have a nice RODI unit and top notch lighting systems and such, maybe you could put to use a decent controller unit...

apexel-neptune-systems-title.jpg

Such as a brand new Neptune Apex!?

If there was one unit that has been tried and true it is the Apex, just ask a number of our fellow forum member, as they seem to swear by them...

And as a bonus of this raffle prize, our board of directors member SunCrestReef would be lending his technical expertise to initial setup and programming! That will be of a huge assistance in getting things started with the unit itself.

But wait now, you already have a good water filtration system, great lighting, and an automated controller system!?

Then just keep watching, we have another couple raffle prizes in store for this killer December Holiday meeting.

Ohhhh Yeahhhh!!!!  Somebody is going to win this Apex!   If it's you, and you live in the greater Portland area, I will help you with setup in person.  If you live outside the area, I'll coordinate with you to set it up remotely.

Take a look at my Apex programming tutorials to get an idea of what you can do with the Apex:  http://www.pnwmas.org/forums/topic/45202-suncrestreefs-week-of-apex-programming/

Well Folks, it seems to be an end to the summer and the beginning of fall, September is here! And it looks like we have lined up one last meeting before the end of the year's December gathering, and right before the Annual October Frag Festival.
      And Great News!

We will be having the September meeting at the Seahorse Aquarium Supply in Portland.
      When?: September 22nd Sunday 1:00 - 4:00
Where?: 106 NE Russet St, Portland, OR 97211
What?: A gathering of your favorite PNWMAS people at a long time sponsors establishment, including food, raffles, and great deals on some very nice livestock.

So come on out and hang out with some of your fellow club members, see whats been brewing at the Seahorse Aquarium, and maybe get the skinny on the upcoming North West Frag Festival.

For our August meeting, we’re doing something a little different.  @SuncrestReef, our resident Apex guru and newest board member, is opening up his house for a tour of his highly automated reef tank and a backyard BBQ.
This will be chance to see some cool high-tech gear in action:  Automated water changes, automated skimmer neck cleaner and smart skimmate locker, emergency backup battery power and generator, and of course the Trident!  As an added bonus, @danlu_gt will present a demo of his amazing ReeFi DUO LED light fixtures, with a side-by-side comparison against SuncrestReef’s Radion XR30 Pro.
As always there will be some cool raffle prizes, and tasty food.
      When:  Saturday, August 24 at 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Where:  19194 SW Suncrest Lane, Beaverton, OR 97007     View on map
      Parking:  Driveway and on-street parking

There’s only one rule:  Cooper, the overly-friendly black lab, is on a very strict diet due to food allergies.  Please don’t feed Cooper anything, no matter how much he acts like he’s starving.  He’s had enough emergency vet visits and doesn’t need another one.

Where does the time go? It is February already, and that means there is another upcoming PNWMAS meet. This time we have something special for you, our comedic and ingenuitive member PDXMonkeyboy has been gracious enough to host a full blown frag swap at his home in Portland Oregon! In addition to the free for all coral exchanging we will have a tank onsite to float frags and a coral sale to benefit the Tanks For Teachers program.
This means there will be corals of all sorts, from all over, at one place! for trade, for sale, and even maybe just for free if you get that winning raffle ticket. This also means you all might want to get ready for the event by seeing what you may have to offer up and what you may be looking for to fill that empty spot in your home aquarium. I will post up one of those ever so popular Frag Trading threads here
      http://www.pnwmas.org/forums/topic/44400-frag-swap-thread-february-2019/
so we can keep this thread to our regular banter and various updates as they come through.
      When- February 24th 1:00 PM.
      Where-
Parking:  There is a long looping driveway and a parking area next to the house.  You can park in the street or anywhere in the driveway.  There will likely just be shuffling when its time to go.
Our PNWMAS club will provide some refreshments and some delectable local pizza for those who attend.

So get those frag racks out and filled up then stay tuned, this is gonna be a good one!

Summer is here!!! And with it road trips, BBQs, and fresh new sights. Put all these things together and you have yourself a nice recipe for a good shindig, and that is what we have going on right here.
The July PNWMAS meeting will be held in Wilsonville Oregon at the All Things Aquarium store. Another one of those gem of a sponsors tucked away up in the northern part of our Oregon state, ATA has been part of the PNWMAS club for a few years now and has always been a gracious host for our fellow members and I am sure that this go around will be no exception. There is always a large selection of fish and corals to tantalize our aquatic tastes as well as a nice little courtyard area to get outside and do some socializing while grabbing a bite to eat.
      When?  Sunday, July 21st, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Where?  All Things Aquarium, 30789 SW Boones Ferry Rd, Wilsonville, OR 97070
What? Another awesome meeting from the PNWMAS crew and sponsor ATA with raffles, food, and fun!..And rumor has it there may be a guest speaker to give us some insight to our marine hobby.

Instead of clamming up on a summer Sunday, come and join us in Wilsonville for another one of our great gatherings!
      Stay tuned for additional details.

      It's that time again Folks!!!
The Annual Hatfield Marine Science Center meeting is at hand! June is a wonderful month to get out to our lovely Newport Coast to have an amazing educational presentation, killer barbecue, and a great time on the beach.
Come and hang out with the rest of us PNWMAS crew this next month at our Newport Coast!
The head director Sid wanted me to mention that he had a couple surprises for us in store such as...
a back of the house tour for those who have not been behind the scenes before, an on-site cookout w/ refrigeration available for anyone, picnic tables, restrooms and prep space available, and an informative presentation in his lab.
It's always a lovely day for a drive to the coast on these warm summer Saturdays.
Take a gander at some of our previous years gatherings, education, exciting, and fun all rolled into one.

Microscope slides of protazoans and parasite.

A glimpse at the complete inner workings of the HMSC quarantine center.

and a possible hands on health workshop demonstration, this one was done on their resident giant wolf eel a couple years back, that was awesome!.. And what a trooper.
Nothing like this all year until now, the annual Hatfield Marine Science Center meeting.
Where - 2030 SE Marine Science Dr, Newport, OR 97365
When - June 22nd 1:00 PM until the BBQ is done...
What - An educational trip with the facilities director Sid! And a great time to hang out with the rest of us PNWMAS crew, all while on our wonderful summer time coast line in the pacific north west's back yard.
      Whoop Whoop!!!
