Tlaloc
Hi there, Is there such thing as a beginners check off list that things needed before I dump in live sand and live rock into a new tank to start cycling? I know its silly but something like: ☐ Test kit ☐ Heater ☐ Thermometer ☐ Hydrometer You get the idea right? Thank you,
milesmiles902
Honestly, live rock and sand have never required a test kit (for me), but live sand makes a mess depending on the grade. Some people empty half their aquarium before pouring it in and others use a bendable 1.5" plastic tube that they pour the sand through. Whatever works, but live rock put in before the sand. It will help stabilize the structure.
pdxmonkeyboy
A heater and a salinity refractometer and I think you would be good to go. Live sand is simple sand that the clean and then add liquid bacteria in a bottle too sooooo, dry sand is probably a better way to go. rinse your sand, rinse it again, then rinse it, then wait, then rinse it, then when you are all done... rinse it one last time. Mandinga
RO/DI unit and easy access to fresh water. It’s the base for all that is good about the tank. Figure this out before getting anything wet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

pdxmonkeyboy
there is always good rodi units for sale pretty cheap. i would advice getting a 5 or 6 pack of one micron sediment filters on amazon. the fresher you keep them the longer your ro membrane will last.
