Sorry to hear that.  I try to only purchase fish that I can see eat at the shop to reduce the risk but that isn't always possible.  Even then, the extra move into another tank or QT can put them over the edge so it's always a possibility to get one that ultimately won't take food.  Hopefully you get a more cooperative one next go around.  Fortunately, they are relatively common at the LFS so you should have a good chance to score a healthy one soon.

Thats my plan I think. make sure its eating and hope they're a bit more cooperative. I hope someday to have a huge shoal of them, but for now I've gotta settle for one.  Im heading over to cuttlefish & corals sunday, hope to pick one up there.

You might consider waiting a few weeks before getting a new fish just to be sure it isn't something environmental that was making it not want to eat. Better to wait a bit longer to see how things play out than risk an additional investment and your other livestock. Just my opinion and I am by no means an expert.

Yeah I think youre right. I think it was just the cardinal, as I had him for over a month and he never ate, while my other fish are fine, but Ill definitely wait just to be safe.

If you're ever in the forest grove gaston area I'll hook you up with some free mushrooms, xenia, Kenya tree, anthelia, Green Star Polyps, Green zoas if you want. Also may have a nice candy cane frag for ya, I accidentally broke a chunk off my colony probably 5 heads. $10 it's yours. Anyway if you make it out here let me know! I love seeing younger kids doing this, my 14 year old son isn't interested but my 13 year old daughter has her own little 15 gallon.

You know what forget the $10 candy cane it's yours free as well if you ever make it to the area. Unfortunately I can't make any meetings (I work and babysit a lot) but I'd be happy to help get your tank really going! If it helps I am in the Tigard area near Washington square most weekday mornings so if maybe your parents are in that area I'm ok with meeting them there to give you the coral if that helps

They all get along well yeah! The blenny is nearly 5.5 inches so he startles the shrimp every once in a while, but no aggression. emoji1.png

That's good then :)

Sometimes, it's hard to mix fish, especially when you've got territorial species in your tank.

Well I added some rock and moved some stuff around. Moved my little Euphyllia garden lower in the tank and a bit more central, opening up a ton of top space. Ill need something to have up there. Also dealing with a bit of cyano which is going away after some siphoning and Phosguard. Getting a ton of coralline growth though which is good! Anyway, heres some photos., [emoji1] ad1bc76761a42f96d13d410d5541e1a5.jpg6585a888bd97b7fa6725bfc8a2ca393c.jpg4307953024c06ba8e929bc3f4ef3dba6.jpg

Also, Just a suggestion, dont get a Lawnmower blenny unless youre okay with 4 inch deep craters in the tank minutes after leveling your sand...

Maybe a sinularis or something similar?  Give you some vertical aspect and branching akin to an sps colony.

yeah that might work. maybe in the red. Im considering a light upgrade and im planning on starting dosing pretty soon, so I might leave the purple open for a potential birdsnest or another more or less hardy SPS.

Well, I haven't updated this in months, and sadly I haven't updated the tank much in that time either, its still running however, so that's at least one positive. I struggled a bit for a while getting my parameters in line after neglecting the tank for a bit. lost a few LPS, but my softies actually saw quite a bit of growth. finally getting things back in line now and trying to start adding a bit and generally be a bit more active in the community as well. definitely going to be at this months meeting at ATA. Update picture to come!

So over the last few weeks Ive realized something, that being that I have neither the time nor the money to maintain the fancy, hard coral tank that Id like to. so ive had a bit  of a change of plan. ive always been fascinated with shallow, intertidal zones, and so Im going for an "Invasive Tank". Basically going for overlooked species that could be found in interdidal areas, im planning on using some fern caulerpa to add some green along with palythoas, some other zoanthids, and the corals I already have including some devils hand, xenia and kenya tree. im also looking into picking up a few different hammers and frogspawns for a small euphyllia garden. im excited to get started on this and hopefully make some decent progress.

Good luck with the reboot.  Sometimes it can pay off to rethink the plan once you have spent some time with a tank.. that and been forced to accommodate ones available free time and budget :D  Post up some pics once you get things going.

Well my little reboot is officially underway! and the tank is already looking quite a bit better. still a long way to go before ill be happy with it, but better than it was. I picked up a decent amount of Fern Caulerpa from work as well as a few Zoas and Palys. nothing crazy. big 'ol' green Palys and some sort of purple and orange Zoa. not sure on its name. working at a fish store is great in part cause you get an employee discount, but that can be a double edged sword, as now I get paid at the same place I spend all my money.  either way, I hope to continue to make steady progress on this tank and I should have an update within the next few days! and now for the pictures!
