Darth Skimmer Mod!

This is a simple modification to cut down on the coralline that builds up in the skimmer.

It applies to skimmers that are exposed to light and reef keepers who like to cut down on maintenance.

Parts:

  • Black PVC Sheet 1mm
  • Black Tie Wraps
Instructions.

  • Wrap PVC around your skimmer to get an idea of how much to trim.
  • Mark, trim and repeat until good fit
  • Drill two holes in the front of the cape for the tie wrap at the top.
  • Optionally, drill holes lower down if needed.
  • Attach the tie wraps to the side that gets the least light, this is the side that will have the least light coverage if you have a cone skimmer.
PS: Thanks to ReefHackers on FB, this was not an original idea by me

Secretly, this skimmer is the father of the other skimmer. This is the scene where Luke...err...the baby skimmer throws it's father down the reactor shaft.

That reef hackers club is an amazing group. Good job on the build.

Hahha, yes.

Thanks, it was a very quick and dirty, but thats all I have time for these days it seems

Good idea for calcium reactors too!

Yes it sure is, I did admire your setup and especially the way you left an inch or so open view the contents of the reactor.

This stuff is 1mm thick sheets of pvc, which I have not used in a project before.  You can buy it in 12x24 sheets on amazon.
