Nice choice of equipment. What type of rock? 50lbs might be a lot in a Fusion 40.

Thanks! I had lots of time to read up and make choices while the tank was backordered.

I'm going to go with Tampa Bay Saltwater for the rock/sand. The 50 is what will be shipped and I probably will end up with some in the sump to move into a refugium later (or maybe even a little seahorse tank, I haven't decided yet).

Okay, okay! Here are the pictures. I'm not sure this is much of an improvement. It's pretty boring right now.

Mostly of note is that the paper on the back of the display is a real pain in the rear end to remove. I've been peeling little ribbons away all day and haven't managed to get very far. Once I get all that done I'll have to wash the inside of the tank again so I can start installing equipment.

I'm pretty proud that I managed to install some LED lights inside the stand without electrocuting myself. I'm not very handy.

Take a hair dryer to the paper and it will come off much easier.......

Is the rock out of the ocean cultured rock?

Ooh. Good idea. Will try that when I go after what's left tomorrow.

Yup. Artificial rock cultured in Florida. I'm looking forward to checking out all hitchhikers. :)

Obligatory ugly first FTS:

It was late when I got home last night so I just piled all the rock in there to get some water on it after the long day of travel. Did some aquascaping today but I riled up too much silt to take a new picture.

The rock is lovely with lots of enctusting sponges and other goodies.

My favorite hitchhiker so far:

I also have a tiny goby of some sort that came buried in the sand that I haven't been able to get a good shot of.

At least one pistol shrimp in the rock. I'm not sure if I'll keep him or not yet. Will probably bait a bottle trap tomorrow and see if I can catch it and any other crabs that might be crawling around overnight.

I did see a nudibranch I think fluttering around while I was rearranging stuff but I couldn't catch it. Will look through some pictures to see if I can ID it.

I finally caught the goby on camera:

Definitely not the final scape since I have more rock coming in a second shipment but I'm pleased for now.

I've been watching the ammonia like a hawk but nothing detectable yet.

Goby and urchin didn't make it. :(

I had an issue with my ATO yesterday that ended up screwing up my salinity and temperature overnight, plus about a billion micro bubbles, which is what I think did them in.

Moved some stuff around and the water is finally clearing up. Still waiting for ammonia to show up.

Ohhh nice! If the rock is that live in wonder if you will even have much of a spike? Tank is looking good btw!

I hope not! We'll see how it goes. The rock was in the Gulf of Mexico last Wednesday and in my tank on Saturday. Very live and came packed in water.

  • 3 weeks later...

Realized I haven't updated on here in a while. Everything is going very well! Added my CUC two weeks ago, and my first fish and coral last week. Really happy with my choices so far.
