sgschwartz
I am new to reefkeeping and have a JBJ 28 HQI all-in-one. Where is the best place in or around Portland (I live in Longview Washington) for live rock. I want around 50lbs of good quality rock suitable for my nano-sized tank. Thanks for any reply
Michael7979
Check out the LFS section. In their store info. is the address' to all shops and you can find the one closest to you. Or use their phone numbers and just call them.
impur
Welcome to the site!!! Like Mike suggested, it would be best for you to find the closest stores and go check out what they have for LR. You could get a few pieces at a few different stores, giving you a little more diversity, and you can also pick out the perfect sizes for your tank. Good luck, let us know how it goes! dsoz
Welcome to the forum. This is a great place to meet locals. Since you have a 28g have you checked out www.Nano-reef.com ? They have a big forum just for those people with tanks under 30g. They are a little more rough crowd, but most of them are OK people. For rock, check out the classified section here on this forum. There may be people that are trying to downgrade tanks and are selling well established rock. Just make sure that they didn't treat their tanks with a copper-based medication while they had the rock in there. Here is a thread that is selling rock for $2/lb, but she is in Salem. It may be worth it for you to drive there to pick up some rock. http://www.pnwmas.org/forums/showthread.php?t=4419 Go to post #16 to see the offer for rock. You can also pick up some live sand from her at $0.90/lb which is a little cheaper than buying sand from a LFS. If you are looking for sand also, a pet store in Oregon City (Animal House) was re-doing their saltwater section and they took LS out of their tanks. They are selling 20-25lb bags for $15. I do not know what condition it is in, or whether they used copper in the tanks that the sand came out of, but if you are looking for a deal on sand... Good luck on the rock hunt. dsoz
