andy
My new cyphastrea is refusing to show any PE at all. I've moved it around but haven't found the sweetspot yet. There's a lot of conflicting info re: ideal light and flow out on the web. Some says low light and medium flow, other high light and flow. Any advice for getting those chubby polyps open and colorful?
badguitarist
I personally would go with medium to low light (60-200 par) and heavy flow. Cyphastrea don't really have very big polyps to begin with.
andy
Hmmm. High flow is going to be a problem. Not good.
Jack-the-reefer
Which cyphastrea? I have 3 different types, and they all seem to prefer different spots in the tank.
andy
Meteor Shower..
Jack-the-reefer
My meteor shower has been really hardy. It sits on the sand bed and gets medium to low flow. High flow has been the only thing that pusses it off so far. They're all different though...
Jack-the-reefer
You can see mine sitting on the left side here. It actually has pretty huge polyps for a cyphastrea, they're probably 1/8" across.
andy
I guess I'll try mine in the shadiest spot in the tank. I'm reluctant to lower the lighting, everything else seems really happy.
Jack-the-reefer
I wouldn't necessarily worry about the shadiest spot... Mine is on the sand bed, just off center. It has been pretty happy in different lighting, flow has been more of an issue. It's been happiest in lower flow.
