Mandinga
Monti setosa WIPED OUt the starburst cap colony. One day... Monti land-things are looking bad, some of the monti's are encroaching one another...I have a bad feeling about the war that will ensue. Mandinga
Added this paly rock island after a trade with cerk1985 left me begging for more zoa/paly space. The idea was to not only give more real estate, but also to cover up the ugly frag racks as well. I again used some scrap acrylic rod and some dry rock to create this little island. The nice thing is that when I want to frag some zoas, I can easily slide the rock out...and now all the zoas are in a medium flow with medium light...and right in the front of the tank, so I can geek out on the color easily:). From the front: FTS, Zoa island is on bottom left. And what's behind them that is now invisible to the naked eye:)
Mandinga
Thanks to garret at TPA, scored these gorgs...they've been in tank for about a month, the yellow one seems happy, but I do have to clean his skin about every two to three weeks. I feed them when I feed the lps...reef chili, cyclopeeze and oyster feast
Mandinga
Our midas blenny in her cave that is too small for her to fit. Undata in low light. Crazy how much greener it is in partial shade. And here is same piece(just fragged) in higher light. White/tan with blue rim....no green or purple. So if you want best color out of undata...lower/indirect light Edited February 7, 2015 by Mandinga
Mandinga
Monti island is taking off nicely. These two survived the first crash. Both have grown out from 1/2" brown frags into these cantaloupe size colonies in about 6 months.

Blue Z Reef
Tank looks great! Those are cool pics with the yellow, looks like a night time dive.
Mandinga
I'm a sucker for night time reef geek out sessions. Seems the most logical time to check out the reef to me(likely because I work until late in the evenings). I was looking last. Night and I noticed something rather disturbing, that I could not capture on camera. When I took a flashlight and aimed it from front to back of tank and I looked at the tank from left to right...I noticed a large amount of free floating particles. Many looked like free floating plankton, while other particles have a red color to them. I stopped using filter socks about a year ago and stopped doing water changes also about a year ago. Corals are happy and growing, but I wonder how much free floating organic matter I am accumulating in my tank. If anyone else can look at their tank when lights are out, with a flashlight pointing to back of tank, while viewing from left to right...please let me know if the water seems clear, or teeming with life and particles...that'd be very helpful! icepikbiker
I actually do a lot of night viewing, and I have noticed free floating Plankton or copepods all over. I also do not use a sock, I do have a sponge on the exit of my overflow tube in the sump, and have not done a water change is a while. My sump is also setup with my fuge chamber just before the return pump.

Thanks for letting me know it's not just me seeing this crazy floating debris.
Mandinga
Found my OLD camera(circa 2003), and somehow it works. I had to rub it's belly to get it to take still shots, so here is what I got. 2-25-2015 Tank is about a year old, but 7 months from the crash. FTS. Excuse the ugly frag rack front and center...was cleaning day:) Purple aggression! Monti Rock Had to take this nice rock out! Side storage. Basically holds the Apex head unit, dosing pump, food, and frag supplies.

badxgillen
What kinda secret reef juice do you put into your tanks, those corals grew impressively and colored up soooo nicely. I would love to acquire a couple of those pieces in the future. Also your camera work is great, crisp and clear...Camera model?

It's an old sony...and actually the focus is broken...so I have to take about 10 pictures and I'll get one clean one! hahaha. But it's worth it because MAN iPhone photos are killing me. Funny thing is that I bought a nice new $500 camera and it takes AWFUL pictures of the tank! lol... She's really taking it easy on him since the addition of the rbta. Without the nem, the poor dude gets absolutely no respect. And the purple tang is on his third home:) lineage to Kim b Beth.
