LC Scott
Ok so I've taken the dip. I plan on using This. 2.99 I plan on going to Tap Plastics Monday to see about a lid.
LC Scott
Cut some holes into an other wise good piece of glass. The grommet in this pic is to small, so back to the hardware store.
LC Scott
Well Tap Plastics wanted 7/8 bucks to custom cut a lid. So for 1.90 I got a small scrape big enough for two just in case and cut my own. Also picked up the right sized grommets. 1.18 Brings me down to 113.
LC Scott
Got my heater and air pump for this tank but for got to get a thermometer to see if I can keep it at a steady temp.DOH! Heater was 14.94 air pump was 6.77 Brings me down to 92.22. That reminds me, the vase will hold 108 oz before rock, sand and heater.
LC Scott
So after two days I tank is holding a 76 degrees, so I think I have a winner with that heater. Now I just need to find a light. I was thinking of this. UP Aqua UA-F17 6.69 Inch Flexible LED Information Think I'm going to find an old antique lamp with a CF 10 / 15 bulb
Gill
Which heater did you end up going with? I have a feeling the the heater I have now will require a lot of plugging in and un plugging as the tempature rises and falls. P.S. If you can I would stay away from any CF they give off a lot of heat and especially with a lid I foresee issues. If you do get a CF I would also pick up a little desk fan; you can use the fan to blow air over the surface of the water, this will cause evaporation and in the process cause heat transfer. If you have a well air conditioned home it may not be an issue but IMO with a lid and CF you will probably have heat issues
LC Scott
Gill, I went with a heater out of wall-mart. Tetra ht10 50w. I also changed my mind about the light. I picked up a lamp at goodwill for 7.50 and a led at home depot for 21.99 That brings me down to 62.73.
LC Scott
It seems to me I've forgotten to declare a few things. Airstone- 1.19 brings me to 61.64 control valve (part of a 10 piece kit) - 4.29 used some silicone to seal the grommets So how do I value the 10 part kit? $0.42 or full value of 4.29 ? Seeing I'm only using on piece of it for this project and the rest will be going to the phyto project coming soon.
Burningbaal
I feel like counting 1/10th is fair, anyone else have an opinion? Looking fun, excited for this next week or so! Sent using Forum Runner

Gill
How are you liking the light? I am starting to feel like its way too bright!!! I noticed the packaging said the light was dimmable, and they sell dimmable extension cords at home depot for like ten bucks... so I'm going to try one out; I'll let you know what I think. I was also thinking it could use some actinic, it would be cool to add a blue moonlight, but my budget is already blown. :(
LC Scott
I'm thinking I'd like some more blue in the light
Gill
Definitly agree with you, I don't know why but I didn't really notice it untill someone on Nano-Reef pointed it out to me, now I feel bad for recommending it.

Gill
I picked up the dimmer today, definitly worth it IMO. I also got a 13 watt backlight spiral compact; I haven't figured out if I'm going to try and run it with the LED or just use it for when I take pics. LC Scott
So I added some clean up crew finally. 1 red tip hermit, 1 nassarius snail and 1 bumblebee snail. $5 I've also been modifying a float mag to work on the odd shape of this tank. cost was $
LC Scott
Anyone have an idea what this is? I have my thoughts but would like someone to see it just so I know I'm not completely crazy. Free swims and it moves in a upward jerking motion.
Derbird
Its hard to tell from the picture. I would guess a pod, and it would have the same jerky up and down swimming pattern. But that is just my guess :p
Islandoftiki
Tiny with a jerky swimming motion would probably be a copepod.
SteveHash-fish20
Yeah probably a cope, but from the pic idk, I have plenty of copes in my 10 and 2.5 and never have seen one that looks like that.. So no idea. Good luck on IDing it
Kimberlee
We're thinking it's more like a little jelly fish. Someone back a while ago reported their tank being almost infested w/ these.
Islandoftiki
I've been hearing a bunch of reports lately about tiny jellyfish-like critters showing up in peoples tanks.
LC Scott
Looks like they are a hydroid jelly.
