They take about a year to a year and a half to reach adult size. if the mandarin is wild caught most of the time the dorsal (top) fin tip is missing from them being net caught. A lot of people (including myself) have mistaken these for females. The dorsal fin will grow back in time! So I would keep the fish for a while before adding a male in. 2 males mandarins will fight depending on the size of their environment. If you got a female, that's awesome!
