OwenReefin
So it was due for a replacement MH bulb for my system and I grabbed a bulb that I totally thought was the same bulb (a pheonix 14k) but it ended up being a 10k bulb. I didn't realize this until I came home after work to notice the whole system's color seemed really off. All of my corals are showing some really negative signs. The hammers, torches and frogspawn are all completely shrunken, all of the SPS corals have bleached color, the anem is withered. Is there anything I can do to help the corals recover? Are the corals going to recover? Thanks for the help.
impur
Its probably giving them a little more light than the previous bulb. Can you put a screen over the tank or raise the light a bit to give them time to adjust or until you get a different bulb?
wanareef
That 10k is brighter than the 14k, do the light acclimation thing and it'll be ok. 1. use window screen to filter out some light and as time goes by remove one of them and so on 2. the easy method, change the light frequency and start off with about 1hr and every couple of days add an hr till you are back to where you have the lights on hth
OwenReefin
Will the sps coral recolor up? Or did I do some permanent damage?
ThePremiumAquarium
They should all recolor over time. I have bleached corals with too much light and they actually usually come back brighter for some reason.
