Buffer in ATO?

I'm having to add Seachem's Buffer to my tank once a week or so. If I do the math right, can I just mix the buffer with my ATO? Are there any undesirable effects?

Not if you have calculated your rate of evaopration and mixed buffer with the total ATO into the system. It should work better than dumping it in once a week in a lump amount.

When i had a 10gal nano i just put the amount of Bionic alk solution that my tank used up per week into my topoff reservoir and it worked out fine. Now i use kalk in my topoff water since it also provides the tank with calcium

I add it to my ATO, my blue bucket and maxi jet had turned white but I think it works really well.

I'm doing the same thing, tossed the kalk into the top off. Seems to be keeping the tank pretty stable.

I wondered when this day would come. ...The switch from the 2-part to Kalk.... Can I toss a powerhead in the ato reservoir in lieu of a kalk stirrer?

Personally I think the Kalk carries a much higher risk. If you overdose the Seachem's Buffer no big deal, overdose the Kalk and it's sudden death. I could be more fearful of Kalk then I should be, maybe others will chime in with their opinions.

Thats why you implement fail safes in your dosing of kalk

 

I've been dosing it for 5 or 6 years now with no issues.

Just add the buffer to your ATO water. I for example use 3tsp of Kent Marine Super dKH in my 2.5gal RO/DI container. Works like a charm.
