cellowithgills
I've been testing my mag levels and the went from 1100 last week to 850 this week. I've been using Kent Tech-M and I've been dosing to raise the level by about 75 a day, and it's still getting lower. dKH is 9, Calcium is >
Harold B
Tech-M is worthless period IMO. To raise Mg levels in any kind of real water volume you will need multiple large bottles, not worth it. Use BRS's bulk Mg cloride/sulfate and instructions for making Mg solution and then use thier calculator for dosing guidelines. Personaly I always go a little less than thier recommendation and test to see where i'm at as it (calculator)tends to run high. There are also ways to make the solution from "Mag flake" (i think it's called) (the cloride) and Epsom salts (the sulfate), but not sure on the particular for that as some tend to have impurities but many use this successfully. Thanks Harold
reefnjunkie
I have posted about my experiances w/Kents Tech M, I think Harold summed it well. I use the mag chloride from BRS and will not ever change-I have tried 3 other products before landing on what I currently use
grassi
Use BRS products for raising your Mg, but I suggest you to not using the sulfite at first. Once you get to your target you can mix the sulfite with chloride as well. It will be slower (kinda like Tech M) but safer. It is cheaper compared to Kent. Otherwise you will have an high concentration of sulfites in a small amount of time. Also, check your salinity during the raise because you are just adding more salt. Hope this helps
