Personal tutoring maybe with a few people. (That's about all I have room for) We tried to do a photography deal at one of the meetings (couple of months ago) and there were just too many things going on to do much more than help a few people figure out some camera settings. My BBQ ain't very fancy but it works and photography is one of my favorite subjects/hobbies so I'm game. It would give me a good excuse to clean the glass on my tank too.

 

That's what I'm talking about!(clap) Photography goes hand in hand with this hobby. We all love pictures or we wouldn't ask every newbie and every person who puts an ad in the classifieds to show pictures.

 

I know it motivates me to take better pictures and the more you take the better you get even if you don't know what you are doing LOL!

 

The 2 photos I put out there were from a P&S-not to be confused with a POS, although I have called it that a few times.

 

So Kim can I vote as many times as I want?

 

I'm gonna wait until 5 minutes before its over and vote if it matters-Sort of like voting in Multnomah county-my vote is never heard/matters-(flame)

I ended up getting a DSLR only because my P&S is a POS when it comes to macros.

 

I think there are a lot of P&S cameras out there that are capable of a lot more if people just knew what they had.

 

Before I used my current cameras "manual" setting it was all auto, you would be surprised what adjusting just the aperature will do.

A fine art photographer sit down for dinner at a nice restaurant. The waiter sees his portfolio on the table and asks to look at it.

After viewing the portfolio, the waiter says, "Wow, great photos! You must have a very expensive camera!"

At the end of an exceptional dinner, the waiter returns and asks how the meal was.

This does bring up a good point. Ever thought about the amature / pro POTM contests? not everyone has a DSLR and Macro lens.

 

Maybe make the pro contest a better prize? I love some of the amature looking photos alot, but they don't quite have the shine and pizzaz of the highres photos shot with nice cameras and lighting settings.

 

While gear can make a difference in certain situations if you listen to what the pros say learn the basics and then practice, practice, practice. I've seen this verified by what some guys can turn out on camera phone or even some toy cameras.

i do understand that, but i'm sorry, there are just far to many limitations of a point and shoot camera, lens quality, optical zoom limits, types of flashes and the control of those features, even on a camera phone. you just don't get a 200x zoom lens on a $50 point and shoot that has a 2-3x optical zoom and horrible image stabilization and 9 out of 10 of us just aren't that good or have that kind of patience to make a Point and shoot work to those degree's.

I can take my DSLR and Point and Shoot it and get a pic that runs loops around my canon powershot even with tons of tweaking and setup. Its really all about what you know and how you apply it.

Hopefully I will not get hammered for posting pictures in this thread however here are a couple of pictures taken using a P&S camera. These were taken using an old C3030Z Olympus with a whopping 3.34 megapixels of resolution before consumer DSLR's became available. The second picture was good enough that I have an 8x10 print of it mounted on the wall. (I have one of Niagara Falls also but I would need to dig out the original file to post it here)

I can take wonderful landscape pictures with my P&S but still have troubles with the under water pictures. Like I said I take lots of pictures to practice and some amaze me but would still like the quality some of you get with the higher quality cameras.
