Thanks Rick I think i got it to work but it took a while. Let me know if I did this correctly.

Looks right except that it probably should be annonymous instead of public.

Hmmm. It looks like this is multiple choice also. Was that intentional?

I don't know how to change to anonymous but since there were so many choices , yes I wanted people to be able to make more than one vote and I figured if I did that I should make it public so someone is less inclined to just vote for everything.

I expect most people to vote for their own pictures! I am just don't want it to be a "vote for your friend contest (whistle). May the best picture win!(clap)

I was also thinking..(scratch) I know it can be dangerous. There are some awesome submissions in here...what do people think about the next 4 runner ups being the next 4 months' POTM winners and then start a new poll in January with a new prize?

I voted for the one that caught my eye the most. And it wasnt my own. Going to get a better camera before the next one so I have a chance. Lol

This does bring up a good point. Ever thought about the amature / pro POTM contests? not everyone has a DSLR and Macro lens.

Maybe make the pro contest a better prize? I love some of the amature looking photos alot, but they don't quite have the shine and pizzaz of the highres photos shot with nice cameras and lighting settings.

I just don't know how you would regulate it? i figured the nicer prizes would keep the pro's in the upper level competitions, leaving the amatures the leftover scraps. LOL

I have a DSLR but my photos don't come out near that good. Its just because i have nooo clue what i'm doing with the camera.

It would be impossible to come up with a fair definition of what amateur vs. pro means. If you use the camera type as a way of defining it then you would eliminate those that have an SLR but are inexperienced at using it and someone with a P&S that knows how to use it would end up in the amateur category. (Many great photos have been taken with a P&S camera)

In reality photography of any kind is more about the person behind the camera than it is the camera itself. A really good photographer can take almost any camera you hand them and turn out great photos. Having a good camera just makes it a bit easier but only "if" the person using it has the knowledge and skill to use it.

I just take a lot of pictures and hope that some turn out lol. I think that helps too. You have to love digital with that in mind. Gone are the days where you have to have them developed before you know if you got something cool.

This is actually one of the best things you can do. The worst thing you can do is to just not take any pictures. Taking a lot of pictures will not only increase your chances of getting a good one but it will also help improve your skill. And yes, digital makes this much easier now. Too many times I got a roll back only to find out something stupid happened (like having the wrong ISO setting set or having a finger in front of the lens).

I didnt mean to start a whole discussion with my comment. I take pictures all the time. I do end up with some good ones but I am saving to get a good camera so I can play with better close ups. Plus I'm still playing with what lights to have on to get the perfect color of each kind of coral. I'm really impressed with some of your pics. Hopefully one day I can get those kind of results.

What? Did I hear poll?

(laugh) Let's see why don't I put up a poll to see if I should put up a poll!:p

I'm just happy there is going to be a new picture in the POTM spot and I say

Let the people decide.. If they want the fancy pictures then vote for them. If they want the amateur pictures then vote for that.

If you want picture your personal picture to win then bribe all your friends to vote for yours!(laugh)

And by the way... who said something about better prizes for more professional pictures???(nono) Let's hear it for the amateurs with cheap point and shoot cameras too!(clap)

It might just be time to have a "DSLR 101 class by rick and BBQ" :)

i'd bring over a frag and food for camera tips and tricks.

Personal tutoring maybe with a few people. (That's about all I have room for) We tried to do a photography deal at one of the meetings (couple of months ago) and there were just too many things going on to do much more than help a few people figure out some camera settings. My BBQ ain't very fancy but it works and photography is one of my favorite subjects/hobbies so I'm game. It would give me a good excuse to clean the glass on my tank too.;)

The 2 photos I put out there were from a P&S-not to be confused with a POS, although I have called it that a few times.

I ended up getting a DSLR only because my P&S is a POS when it comes to macros.

I think there are a lot of P&S cameras out there that are capable of a lot more if people just knew what they had.

Before I used my current cameras "manual" setting it was all auto, you would be surprised what adjusting just the aperature will do.

So Kim can I vote as many times as I want?

I'm gonna wait until 5 minutes before its over and vote if it matters-Sort of like voting in Multnomah county-my vote is never heard/matters-(flame)

SPIN

SPIN

(naughty)

Nice photos people, and Kim very nice gesture to kick it back off with some freebies-You should be President
