moovinfast
So I have a 10 gallon tank that I was going to use as a QT tank for fish, but not sure we're going to be getting any new fish now. What needs to be done to turn it into a frag tank. Mostly just want to do softies in it. I built it as kind of an All in one set up. One end is blocked off with a wall with overflow and return pump and heater. I built a foam/rock wall that goes across the back and has about 2 inches of sand. Lighting is a 6500k 100w sprial bulb spot light. Can I just throw in a bag with carbon next to the return pump and call it good or do I need a skimmer and better lighting? impur
Should be ok with just softies, although you might get more nuisance algae growing with that bulb. You don't need a skimmer, but better lighting might be needed. I used a 70w MH in a halogen fixture
grassi
I used to run a 10g as prop tank. I was doing frequent water changes and it was fine. I even stored a clam in there for a few months. Then I added a hob pinweel skimmer and it was even better. They cost around $35 and work great. Just be careful: I started as well as quarantine tank... then it morphed into a frag tank.. then it was just another tank ;-) I like the light mod that impur did! impur
haha so true, my QT tank became a frag tank. There have been so many times when i think Hey why don't i just toss some rock and sand in there? (laugh)
