vanz
Okay, incase of blackouts, I would like something to keep a powerhead going for at least a day. The powerhead uses about 7 watts. What are some good ones out there that will do the job? Here's one that I'm thinking of getting, but not quite sure I understand the specs... APC ES 8-Outlet 350VA 200-Watt UPS. Link to description How long do you think that will keep my powerhead running?
oldbrownies
you know there are air pumps that just take normal batteries, and the vortech pumps have a battery back up for them as well
Nyles
If you can get your hands on a used UPS thats the best bet. Even if the battery is toast replacing it is not that big of a deal. But that little thing, I don't think ou will get much runtime. I would go with a full size UPS.
vanz
Oldbrownies, this is what you mean? I had one...probably the cheaper one and quality sucked big time. Failed on me many times. Is there a better one out there? Nyles, can you link to me a suitable UPS? I would like to know what I am looking for. I could probably find a toast one. How many VA? Thanks guys! Nyles
I just called a friend and got one, not sure of the specs but must run a pc for 15-30 minutes, so it should run a powerhead or two for a day or longer. I will get mine setup and get some pics, but honestly it will be a while till I start the project.. here is a link of some generic info. The key with these is they switch automatically so when your gone out for the night you can sleep comfortably. http://saltaquarium.about.com/od/emergencypowersources/ht/ht_aqups.htm I was going to replace the old battery with a marine deep cycle I have in the garage. Thanks for the link. Looks very interesting. I'll have to hunt down a busted UPS. I tried looking for an old one at the IT department, but it doesn't look like they are using any(scratch)
Nyles
The guy I get them from is a IT tech that services portland, I will ask if he can get anymore, but honestly it will probably take a few months. I threw one away last year... Always happens that way.

Ronjunior
Here's a few for $15....make a deal with the guy, he's got a bunch. Also, you might just put a free "item wanted" ad on Craigslist, you might just find people who want to give them away so they're recycled instead of throwing them out. http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/sys/236222194.html Also, I'll bet Free Geek http://freegeek.org/ gets them in quite often. With all this talk, I'm going to have to steal my own from my PC and see how long it will keep my PH going
