jason7504
how much weight can the average wood dresser hold without bowing in the middle? I think its oak but not sure
CCR
what size? and tank size? You could put 3/4 plywood on top. Piece of felt between so the top doesn't buggered up
jason7504
well the dresser is about 5' tall, 2 1/2' wide and 1 1/2' deep and the tank size is 15g
CCR
Real wood top. no problem IMO
R-3
Yeah I cant imagine it not holding it. Can you stand on it?
fishmanmike01
Should be no problem at all.

andy
Depends on the construction. As long as the weight is supported by butt joints and not carried by screws/glue you should be ok.

R-3
Is it real furniture or something bought at Kmart?
nwcoralfarm
Yeah for sure the main thing you need to know is if it is presswood or real wood. Even some fake wood can hold it but I would feel better with real wood. I would also take a look and see where the main support is in the dresser, if it is 6' wide and only supported by the ends I might worry. If it is only 4 foot wide then I wouldn't be as worried but I might still prop a little in the center to be sure. If it is real wood then you can probably park your car on it. undrtkr_00
If it is real wood then you can probably park your car on it. LOL! Try sitting on it. If it holds your weight OK, then a 15g will be no prob.
ThePremiumAquarium
As long as the thing isn't all rickety or something it should definately hold a 15g tank. I used an audio stand from K-Mart:D for a 29g biocube. Worked like a champ and is still doing so. Actually makes for a nice look.
snowpunk
I had a 29g on one for a few years and no signs of stress afterward or during.
jason7504
I had a 29g on one for a few years and no signs of stress afterward or during. on a dresser around the same size as mine? was it solid wood?
finch6013
what are you planning? new tank, broken light, and trying to use a dresser as a stand.... sounds like a new build thread is needed!!!
snowpunk
on a dresser around the same size as mine? was it solid wood? Mine was about 4' high and 3' wide, and yes it was real wood too. The structural frame at least, the rest was just fiber board junk.
jason7504
actually mines 2 1/2 feet wide
snowpunk
actually mines 2 1/2 feet wide That should actually do better then. The supporting legs will be closer together then mine were. The further apart the outside supporting legs are the worse it is because of the potential for the top to bow down with all the weight and nothing to help keep it up from right under it. Your only looking at about 150lbs max so you should be fine. Mine was about another 100lbs+ over that with a bigger distance between supports.
