View Full Version : I'm not dead yet!
These guys have been closed up for the past few weeks. Over that time, about half the colony died and been been trimmed off. My wife, she of little faith, suggested I just give up and toss the poor guys but I knew better! This morning, after an usually dramatic weekend, they started to open up. Any suggestions? Should I try to clean off that algae, or just leave them alone for a bit?

I'd get rid of the algae.

Yeah, I would try to get some of that algae off. I would also try moving them somewhere else in the tank. Try an area with higher water flow and maybe play with the light a bit. Move them up for higher light and see if that makes them snap out of it. Something is ticking them off, that's for sure!

My guess would be the algae! Get that stuff off of there.
I brushed most of the algae off of there this morning, it was tough to get at the stuff towards the middle of the colony -- I didn't want to damage any of the polyps with the toothbrush. Pity some manufacturer doesn't make Zoa floss, to get rid of plaque.. I mean algae between polyps (laugh) I also moved the colony to a higher light and flow area, we'll see if that makes a difference.
Also, due to my leak drama (http://www.pnwmas.org/forums/showthread.php?t=943), my SG dropped to ~1.022 from 1.026. The revival of this colony coincided with the drop in SG, any chance there is a connection?

I normally keep my SG around 1.025-1.026... I think that I recall my zoas getting pissy when it drops too low

Zoa floss! Call the patent office! Your slogan can be "Because sometimes a toothbrush just won't do!" (clap)
