So today I trained a small group to test the 80 gallon reef.
I took pics but think it is probably not a good idea to share w/out parent permission.
Here were there parameters tested 10/08/08 at 10:00 AM
Salinity 1.025
pH 8.1
Nitrate 0ppm
dkH 9
Calcium 430
We did not get to phosphates. Ran outta time. Still they loved it.

Here are more pic of the tank they tested. This is my original reef started in June 2006. It did get upgraded to an 80 last fall but has most of the same inhabitants.

Tank looks great!! I wish my teachers would of had more hands on learning like this. Stuff you do with your hands seems to stick with you alot longer than something you read out of a book. How blessed your students are!!

Thanks all. The kids do love it too. It is a natural teaching tool. I don't know how many times I have heard, "I wanna have a tank like that." The best part is that kids really want to help and get involved ..... no matter what grade they have in the class. That, in my opinion, is the true value. I know I have ignited some inner curiosity when the least successful students keep asking me if they can help feed or test or ask about a fish. I know at the end of the day that they have taken something away from my room.
