I know there was a thread where we talked about this game but i can't find it. Anyway, i picked up the game for $19.99 at Circuit City last night and wanted to see who else who else plays it currently. Maybe we could get a clan going.

I have wanted the game for quite some time, but the monthly fee kept me from buying it. Well for 20 bucks and a free 30days of playing, i figured it is definately worth it.

I have 3 characters on 2 servers. Lvl 22 Tauren druid on Ysera, Lvl 5 Nightelf druid & Human warrior(my 5 year olds character) on Norgannon. I have been thinking about creating a new character (maybe a shaman) so I am game to start in another server.

I played my warlock over the weekend for awhile, up to lvl 8. This game is more fun than Guild Wars, much easier to play solo. Although everytime i die i have a LONG walk to get my corpse, so that sux. I'm open to starting a new char on a diff server, currently i'm on Ariel Peak or something.

andy

I'm really active on the Uldum server -- Undead Priest, level 60. I'm just starting to get WoW out of my system.. after 18 months of play. The methadone really helps.

andy
06-26-2006, 07:02 PM
My Priest60 is Undead, and I have a level 60 Dwarf Paladin but I don't talk about him much ;) . I also have a stable of characters in their forties.

Fenmere
06-27-2006, 11:06 AM
Currently, I have a lvl 58 Night-ef Hunter and a lvl 17 human priest. Once the hunter is at 60, i'll start working on the priest. I also have a low lvl tauren shaman on the Cenarion Circle server. This is for when Duskwood goes down

Hey what would you suggest i get as my professions? I'm thinking skinning or herbalism for the first. I need to do some more reading on whether those would benefit my char, i think this is the best way to make money right?

andy
06-27-2006, 11:44 AM
Two gathering professions are the best moneymakers until level 40 or so. Skinning/Herbalism is a good combination. Mining/Herbalism is probably the best, but since you can only have your 'radar' set to one or the other it is probably best left alone until you are experienced enough with the zones to know from memory where the mining spawns are.

At level 40, dump skinning and switch to Alchemy. Herbalism/Alchemy is probably the only combo that remains desirable all the way through endgame. Enchanting and Engineering can be fun, but are huge money sinks. Very, VERY few people make one red cent from Enchanting -- the cost of advancing it and buying recipes makes overall system profit very difficult. Engineering is fun, particularly for PvP. Leatherworking and Blacksmithing have a few nice bits, but overall you'll get better gear from drops or the Auction House.

Just my experience, YMMV.

impur
06-27-2006, 12:55 PM
Awesome, thanks for the info. So you can change later on in the game then? Just have to pay the cost of the training again?

Also, currently i can only wear cloth. Is this because my char can only wear cloth? Or do i just need to get farther in the game to wear leather/chain armor?? I'm an undead warlock BTW.

andy
06-27-2006, 01:29 PM
Your secondary skills are retrainable for free. You can drop and add them at will, you just lose all progress and start over from zero each time. Fishing, Cooking and First Aid are all freebies, you get all three independantly of the secondary skills. It is when you respec your character (change your talents and class skills/spells) that you have to pay gold.

As a Warlock (goob job choosing Horde, by the way ;) ) you will always be limited to cloth armor. It's only the melee and hybrid classes that get to improve their category of armor as they rise in level. Good luck, have fun and feel free to fire any questions my way.

ESBlofeld
06-30-2006, 12:43 AM
I've got a couple 40s hunters on Elune, one tauren one Dwarf that I took engineering with, those bombs help quite a bit with soloing but are a huge money sink. My wife and I have been playing some on Dark Iron with the Penny Arcade webcomic alliance guilds, they're fighting the Cnt-alt-del horde guilds all the time and have some great guilds going.

impur
06-30-2006, 09:12 AM
Nice! So you are doing PvP then? I haven't tried that yet, although i get challenged everytime i play. Good to know on the cloth armor, i can sure make some $$$ selling all the chain/metal armor i find.

I've been concentrating on my warlock, up to lvl 10 now. Not sure i like my other char, a night elf warrior. I'm more into the casting chars. I hope she can be a decent tank though, so i'll lvl her up this weekend and see how it goes.

Ok so i was checking out my available talents. I had 1 point. I clicked on a talent i don't necessarily want. Am i screwed or can i get it back? Is there only a certain amount of talent points you get in the game or can i make this one up at some point?

Ok wait....do i have to get the first few talents to get to the higher talents anyway?

andy
07-03-2006, 08:11 PM
Once spent, talent points can only be returned by 're-speccing' your character. You pay your class trainer a fee (starts cheap, gets more xpensive the more you do it -- though it will start to drop if you go a while without re-speccing) to get all your talent points returned so you can rebuild.

A lot of people plan their talents ahead of time. Check out the Blizzard Talent Calculator (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/talent-index/index.html;jsessionid=585B4A9F97B72560B8B89CA8EC88 3B8E.08_app04)

ive been thinking about checking this game out but ,shy away at the monthly subcription fee...has anyone tryed any of the free servers...

andy
07-10-2006, 05:08 PM
There aren't any free WoW servers I know of. Blizzard really cracked down on the free BnetD servers (open-source Battlenet services) through legal channels; WoW is much more complex and higher profile than Battlenet, so I doubt there is anything free there at all.

I know some people who play Guild Wars (which has free monthly play), but it really is a different kind of game all-together. Might be worth checking out though...

impur
07-10-2006, 05:31 PM
^You can get deals on the monthly fee, i think amazon has a 2 month sub. for 22 bucks or something. Guild wars is completely different, its almost impossible to solo in that game. I'm up to lvl 14 and just can't get any farther in the game, its more of a Team/Guild game. WoW is awesome though, i've been playing on the free 30day sub and loving it. I'm gonna guy another 2 months so i can try out some PvP.

I'm using "Shandris" and the character's name is "Kalindaa." It's the name I used to use for my paladin back in the 80s when I played D&D. Why do I suddenly feel like an uber-nerd? (whistle)

Now, if I can just get my onboard ethernet to stop fizzling out, that would be great. I told Jay that there was no way he would be able to build a new computer without something going amiss. I keep having to reinstall the ethernet drivers to get it to work again. Weird!

Go to the chipset mfg. and get the latest network drivers, IE viatech.com, sis.com, or nvidia.com, depending on which mfg. chipset you have. Check the motherboard manual for which chipset is installed.

I thought about trying Guild Wars, but I think Miles is the one who said it's tough to play solo. I haven't joined any groups, just playing on my own. Though if someone looks like they need a shot of health, I give them some help. It's amusing, all of the spells being cast on you by other players. It's like Christmas every time I play.

That's probably a good reason not to buy it for me, then. I think I'm going to end up investing in WoW anyhow. It's surprisingly fun! It's more fun as I figure stuff out since I'm a noob. Funny how casting a few spells can keep you from getting dead so quick! What I can't figure out is why some people's names are green and others (like mine) are blue.

the reason some are green, and some are blue, is a few different reasons..

first.. all flagged PvP characters, will have a green name above them. If your on a PvE server, and not flagged, you will be a blueish color.

also, if your in a group, all group members will have a lighter blue name above their head.

anyone that wants to, roll a new character on gurubashi horde, add carbon to your friends list, and hit me up when im on, and we can get you to 70 quick.

Well...
It's pretty hard to sum up.
Issue 9 (they don't charge for new content) is coming up soon, they usually have free trial codes when they do. I could get you one.
You can download the client for free, and test it for 2 weeks. If you like it, then you just sign up for the billing. As an FYI, there's some unique minor powers ( a 30 second jet back - which is awesome when you're low level and trying to get across an ugly zone, some costume items, and some other stuff if you buy the DVD and the one expansion pack).
One thing, travel is usually pretty quick, more than 5 minutes to get to a mission door is unusual. One zone, The Hollows, has critters higher than you that you have to bypass to get to doors. On the Virtue server (other servers are Guardian, Freedom, Liberty, etc.) there's a group called the Taxi Bots who will teleport you around for free, as a public service.

Things have really changed in the last year and a quarter that I've been playing. I9 adds the Invention system and starts to bring an economy into the game. There's a bunch of new zone, new powers, arcs, enemies, etc.

I still like Villains more than Heroes... :D Though one arc is down EVIL. The funny part is, you spend something like 3/4 of your time fighting other NPC villain groups.

I upgrade my home PC about every 2 years and it only costs me about 300 bucks. New MB, new RAM, new processor, and you can get by upgrading video cards about every 30 months. It sounds like we have a lot of wow'ers out there. I have like 6 characters on the norgannon server. If anyone likes to play the game solo a lot then check out this site. http://www.wow-pro.com/ check out Jame's leveling guides horde & even alliance chapters. really cool guides to level your character in the least amount of time. I have run my orc hunter to level 54 now entirely solo.

Thanks for the link! I play almost exclusively solo since i never know when i'll get to play. I have i think 7 or 8 chars on all different servers. My highest is a lvl 24 undead warlock. I love the pets!

I've pretty-much completely burned out on Raiding, and am spending most of my in-game time goofing around on an alt with my son. We've joined a small, family-friendly guild and are having a blast building our toons up. The only downside is that he prefers Alliance /spit

Wh-wh-what! Boo hordies! (laugh)

A couple weeks ago I went in with some fellow guildies to the blood elf starting area and caused mischief. I mostly took off all my gear and did the naughty-nekkid-night-elf-dance. Some of the hordies danced with us, so that was just a riot!

All my toons are still on Shandris. Kalindis is a level 50 NE druid, Shamalaya is a level 21ish dranei shaman (who I am already pretty bored with) and Kylliana is a level 14ish dwarf priest. Kal is definitely my main character. I finally took her into the battlegrounds at lvl 49... did the capture the flag thing. Pretty fun!

And yes, that's why I haven't been on here very much... I've been playing WoW! rofl

Toodles!

a couple of weeks ago I tried the 10 day trial,,, I was very dissapointed, I thought for sure I was going to get hooked. I leveled a character upto about level 12 and called it quits. Im still trying to figure out what all the hoopla is about.

Its just like diablo, only more people ignoring everyone else in the game.

I loved Diablo, played that for hours on end. I had to try a couple diff toons before i really got into it. I love soloing my undead warlock. Its a blast. I stop and help ppl who might be in trouble along the way, make some friends for dungeon quests and stuff. The game kind of engulfs me for a few hours at a time. I'm up to lvl 27 with him now.

Stacy - dang girl you've been kicking some serious butt! I guess thats a given though since you took the easy route going alliance. BOOOOOO!!!!

If only I came to the same conclusion! I've always loved RPGs, so I think that is a big part of my fascination with the game. I blame Microsoft for not releasing more RPGs for the Xbox 360!

Yeah, I've been kicking butt and taking names, I'll admit it. I've been playing mostly with an old friend from high school which I think plays a pivotal role as to why I like playing WoW so much. Plus nekkid dancing? What's not to like! (laugh)

one thing that frustrated the hell out of me was I was always lost. Id pay careful attention to the names of places etc, but when a quest came up I had to remember where Mr Whoever was located. such a pain in the ***. I think I spent half the time just running down streets. The teleport deal is nice, but to only one location? and only once an hour!? I also couldnt figure out what the requirements where for items. i picked up some armor, gloves etc etc but I didnt know if or when Id ever be able to wear them, do I hang onto them or sell them? No one in the game while playing was any help what so ever.

I probably had lots yet to learn to make it more enjoyable, but for now, Ill stick to DiabloII and counter strike source.

Yah i hear you on getting lost. There are mods out there that will reveal the whole map, and they have updated the quest system so its tracked a little better. Its really just a matter of learning the area too.

As for items you have to learn how to use some of them, like swords or guns or whatever. As for armor, each toon can only wear certain stuff. My warlock can only wear cloth armor, everything else the name is red, indicating i cannot wear it. I just sell everything i find that doesn't work on my char.

Are ppl still cheating on Diablo? I know we used to mess around after we beat it so many times and make like 1mil HP chars and just fight eachother. LOL

probably so on diablo one, on diablo II the only cheat you reallly hear about is a map hack. diablo II is much better than 1, you dont get PKed like in 1, (although you can duel). graphics are pretty sweet during the battles etc. you should check out II if you only played 1. get the expansion too.

I have both 1 and 2 and the expansion ;) I really liked that game, i played it nonstop for over a year.

I think I lasted on the trial account for one day... they disable a lot of stuff to basically force you into getting a full account. You're right about the walking, that's one of the things that Jay doesn't like about it... all the walking. And sometimes riding a gryph from one location to another takes a ridiculously long time. I don't know why Blizzard doesn't speed that up more. It's long enough that I alt+tab out of WoW and cruise the internet.

There is certainly a lot of help on the internet. I know I go to Thottbot constantly to figure out where I need to go for quests so I'm not just walking around aimlessly.

But you know what? You're one of the lucky ones that didn't like the game and didn't get sucked into it! (laugh)

Welcome to the site, i see you share 2 of our addictions!!! rofl

I'm up to lvl 32 with my warlock, i just discovered the auction house and i've made roughly 5 gold in the last 3 days, playing a total of maybe 5 hours!! I'm pretty stoked, just selling common stuff like silk and shredder manuals. Can you believe i sold a shredder manual for 50s??? (laugh)

yeah there are people who have alts that will pay big money for silly thinks just to lvl their alt. good in some cases really bad in others. but yet i do indeed suffer from the addiction/11 (laugh)

make sure you guys update your add-ons if you use any since the last update came out!!!

Yah i always see ads for that stuff. Guaranteed leveling with 200g, lvl 40 mount!!! Blah blah blah i'm not paying real money for someone to play a game for me.

Do you know if the Titan panel has been updated anywhere? I can't seem to find it, i like it for the location coordinates and i like that it tracks my exp. i use Titan panel, mozzfullworldmap, and atlas.

So I finally got Jay to start playing. We're so nerdy, we have two accounts! So if any of you are still actively playing and feel like rolling another toon... do it on Shandris on the horde side. Yes, I have horde characters now. (laugh)

Jay is Draakos and I am either Kalgaar or Kalmoira. He's an orc rogue, Kalgaar is an undead warlock and Kalmoira is a troll hunter. And if I can score 7 more sigs "The Army of Darkness" can go live. I tried bribing the lowbies with silver with no luck. I can't believe the name wasn't taken as it is one of the best horror/comedy movies ever! (clap)

So help an undead chick out, eh? (naughty)

I wish i could move chars to your server Stacy, i've put so much time into my warlock and mage i don't wanna start over lol. I'll probably give it a shot though, the early levels are always fun.

yeah it does kinda suck when you consider that your already payin 15 bucks a month to play and there are constant updates and server crashes. but hey crack is crack and people will pay for it.....i do. lol
