SoCalCreations built a new tank (70 x 36 x 30) for me and it is finally here! I borrowed my friends truck to pick it up from the freight yard and the forklift driver hit his truck with the pallet! One accident report later we made it back home with a few guys to muscle it out of the truck.

It was neatly packed away in a crate with several layers of foam to protect it.

My daughter and wife checking it out.

Once we removed the wood it wasn't too heavy. It took 4 guys to waddle it into the house. I'm still waiting on the steel stand but it shouldn't be too much longer.

i think when you get the stand you might want to move it a little further from the couch

Update-

My buddy finished the steel stand and it turned out really nice. So nice I decided to keep it exposed for all to see.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y257/littleichiban/fish/330_setup/IMG_3079.jpg

I ended up getting a little over 200 lbs of base rock from reefer rocks to go along with my existing 150 lb of live rock. I was able to drill a few of the rocks to make some arch ways and overhangs.

The final placement was fairly close to my original design. As you can see below my canopy is not finished yet so I'm having to temporarily use my old one to provide some much needed light. Most of my coral is still out in the frag tank and will be moved later this week.

This is the side view from my desk. I have a pretty good view while I'm checking the scanning the AH.

I just installed a tunze wavebox last night. That thing is way cool. I'll have to take a few videos of my torch waving back and forth.

Great job with the aquascaping! It's always nice to see crevices and valleys rather than the standard rock wall... which is so much easier to do! Your base rock looks really nice, too! We though about getting some base rock for the 240, but now that we have Bobby's rock, no need!

The stand looks very sweet! Give your buddy a pat on the back!

Oh yeah... I moved your thread over to the member tanks area. Keep us posted on your progress! (clap)

The stand is getting closer to completion. My lumenarc reflectors should be here on saturday to finish things up.

How do you like your wave box?

I love it. Here is a video showing the water movement at the top. I'm uploading another one that shows my torch swaying back and forth. It does a really good job of keeping the gunk suspended in the water column so it can be filtered out.

That is awesome!!!!! How much room do you have to leave at the top of the tank for the water? and keeps everything swaying?

ringwurm
07-26-2006, 11:16 PM
When the wave is at the top there is about an inch space from the top of the tank. I'll post another video in a few that will show what the wave does in the tank.

The big lumenarc reflectors arrived on saturday so I was able to finish the canopy! :) The new 20k xm's look sweet! I still need to replace the center EVC 10k halide to match the new xm's. I was so excited I forgot to take a picture with the canopy doors on. lol oops.

The 20k's really make things look clear and crisp. It will be interesting to see what kind of growth rates I will get with these bulbs compared to the 10k's.

I beleive it is the Tunze wave box, and I think tunze is the only company producing a home aquarium wave box...I could be very wrong.

There is a unit called Wave2k also.

Oh, yeah I remember that one now...it seems like alot of work for that one, I would just go with the tunze...it is the box next to the vortech on the right side of the tank.

Once I upgrade to a bigger tank, I will be getting the tunze wave box.

ringwurm
07-31-2006, 08:13 PM
The wavebox is made by Tunze. The pump next to the wavebox is actually a tunze 6100 not a Vortech. I looked at the vortech but they were having drive shaft issues when I purchased the equipment. Overall I'm very happy with the tunze equipment.

Tomorrow my Neptune aquacontroller arrives!!! More toys to play with. :)

400w 20k XM --> Older Magnetic PFO
400w 20k XM --> Electronic BlueLine
400w 10k EVC --> Electronic EVC

Hey what ever works and gets you to where you need to be on the budget you have...Cause we all know that if we had the money we would have tanks that you could dive in with ballasts that created light brighter then the sun :)

Here are a few pics I took tonight as I was adding more coral. Most of the coral from the old tank has finally made it into the new one. I also have the hood hoist hooked up and working. I used several pulleys and coated wire which is hooked up to a screw drive hoist. If I need to do some work I can lift the canopy up several feet which allows me access to the entire tank. :)

Tank is looking good, its gonna be one sweet tank when all those corals grow in.

Can you slow that wavemaker down or is that the speed it has to be for your sized tank?

Good lookin setup, I would check out using Radiums instead of XM, I think you'll find them to be better. They have a new price tag now for everyone (not just waves I mean) so its not quite as painful....

ringwurm
08-16-2006, 02:00 PM
You can't slow the wavemaker down. The size of the tank determines the speed of the wave. I have heard good things from the radiums. I will have to try one.

Love the look and currently have somewhat coarser sand that always looks messy.

The tank has been doing so-so. I've had a bunch of coral RTN on me for unknown reasons. I ended up testing my boron levels and they were 17ppm! ouch. I'm in the process of switching salts which appears to be helping. I'm also dosing magnesium since my levels were a bit low.

Here are a few updated pictures of the setup.

The new tanks are setup and ready for plumbing.

Existing frag tank. I still have a few chunks of rock in the tank that I will be moving into the main display.

I've now taken over a whole stall in the garage. lol. My wife is thrilled. I'm going to encase the whole area in pvc/plastic like a greenhouse when the weather starts to cool down.
http://www.oceanfrags.com/blog/hello/38722/1024/IMG_3502-2006.09.25-20.20.49.jpg

The kalk reactor is finally up and running. It is cycling for 10 min every 3 hrs. If you ever get a chance to buy a aquarium controller look at the neptune AC3. It is extremely easy to use and is rock solid. Coding the pump to cycle is one simple line in the program.
http://www.oceanfrags.com/blog/hello/38722/1024/IMG_3515-2006.09.25-20.22.01.jpg

I moved the calc reator off the floor so the kalk reactor doesn't get lonely. Actually the main reason is to keep the sump splatter off the co2 tank. The only downside was I needed a bigger feed pump to get the water up to the reactor.
http://www.oceanfrags.com/blog/hello/38722/1024/IMG_3517-2006.09.25-20.25.55.jpg

I have a new shelf for the phyto and rotifer cultures to live. I also hooked up a utility sink so I don't have to go back and forth to the utility room when i need to use the sink.
http://www.oceanfrags.com/blog/hello/38722/1024/IMG_3518-2006.09.25-20.30.06.jpg

I even took time to organize my test kits. lol

I also picked up a new colony from Coral Reef Pet center this weekend. The store is looking good. I'll try to get another pic once it adjusts to the new tank.
