View Full Version : How HID (MH) Lighting Works
At the Sunday club meeting, our guest speaker (sorry, name and company forgotten DOH!) presented on the benefits of his company's new MH ballasts. I had a rough idea what he was talking about, but a fair bit went over my head. The following links helped fill in a few gaps for me, maybe they'll be useful to others...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-intensity_discharge_lamp
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_ballast
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenon_arc_lamp
The last link is listed as a curiosity; the presenter mentioned something about looking towards xenon lamps... it'll be interesting to see how they pursue that, given xenon bulb's tendency towards grenade-like explosions when dropped (scary)

interesting, I know that HID's are very expensive...I know for after market brand ones they are 500-600 bucks and the bulbs are rather small. I wonder what this will all pan out to be in th hobby.
MH are a type of HID. I predict they will be well received.

Interesting Idea. Now where oh where can I get enough HID headlights???? Hmmm Well I do think I will go to electronic ballast's down the road. Still spendy for that one in Portland, but still in R&D on future changes. I will wate till year end. Man, they sure ran cool. And less power!!!
