I have an orange plating monti in the top 6" of my 90g tank. It is under a 6 lamp Tek T5 light fixture right next to one of my MP40s. The coral has always been very lightly colors more pink than orange. I see a lot of pictures of these montis and they are a deeper color than mine which is much lighter and pink with noticeable fluorescence when just the blues are on.
Is this coral trying to tell me it is unhappy? I was under the impression I could not give it too much light with the lighting I had.

You probably cant give it too much light, but they do take an acclimation period if they are moved into a different type/spectrum. You may try lowering it. It never hurts. For a few reasons. They grow out and up. This will give you more growth space. And they grow fast and can shade things below. One thing i always regretted in my first sps tank was not keeping the monti trimmed and in control.
Do you have any other similar corals that are ok so you know its not chemistry related?

My tank also has a green cats paw and a pink sand dollar monti that are coloring up well. My most sensitive coral is an unidentified blue acro that also seems very happy. Last time I tested my alk was at 10, Ca 420, and mag 1300. Nitrates and phosphates are undetectable by my kits.

Yeah most likely light and MAYBE flow but usually less important. I would move it down a little. And secure it to something if it isnt. They dont like jostling around

I moved his rock down a tiny bit and out from in front of my pump. He is fully encrusted over the epoxy I mounted him with so he won't be moving. I notice some decent growth and polyp extension just not the intensity of the color I see on a lot of them. I tried to photo the coral but could not get a decent pic, it is for sure pink and not orange. Is there such a thing as a pink plating monti?

You mean encrusting monti right-I dont know of a plating monti-but I dont know much either (laugh)?
I have never seen an encrusting monti that is just red either -I used to have an encrusting that was just orange but thats the only encrusting I have ever seen that was a single color, most have one color for the base and the polyps are a different color
Hopefully you can get a pic to help identify it-but what was suggested and you are doing is correct-always start low and work your way up with every new addition-its a safe practice
