so how much water do you normally get in a day/overnight?
Nyles

Every units rated diferent, but the amount listed should be the amount it can pull per day, not the container size.

any idea if you can use the water? I'd think that it would be pretty pure since it was evaporated and then condensed. Isn't that how they make distilled water..

I don't know what you would use it for, but you have to remember those particulates where floating in your house and who knows that they attached to. Then a DH has a cold coil that air passes past attracting water and runs down the coil to a catch pan or container. I wouldn't trust them for much more than using for laundry wash water.

Well most places sell the 20 and 40 pint models. 40 pints is 5 gallons. That SHOULD be the rating of the daily extraction not the container size, some models vary though. My tank evaps 2-2.5 gallons per day.

do you see a substantial difference in the humidity. Like the windows - mine look like I'm running a hot tub in the house!

I'm not sure how big your tank is, I had a 40 gallon and it was fine went to about 180 gallon and windows are terrible with mildew starting to show up in some spots behind furniture, I wont get mine till Monday but I will run it hard plumbed to a floor drain set to about 45% relative hum to start and see what happens. I'm sure it will clear up the problem.

We've been using dehumidifiers in the bedrooms and it makes a world of difference!
No more water running down the windows, or mold spots on the walls.
They are "loud" though!
GReat idea with the floor drain! Will have to look into that, since we are emptying ours about every 3 days!

Bionaire dehumidifiers are almost completely silent.

I just bought a Bionaire 40 pint for 120.00 shipped... In my opinion that is a great investment.

nice I seen that, I went with the smaller unit simply because I heard complaints about the noise, is it
"as" loud in comparison to regular DH's?

It is suppose to be quiet...I figure it could not be much worse then the smaller one...I did not look into it much...maybe I should have.

I have a Goldstar DH504DL 50 pint dehumidifier.
Goldstar 50 pint dehumidifier (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?dest=9999999997&product_id=5079279&sourceid=1500000000000002682650)
Used it for about 3 months, then I put my tank in-wall. No longer needed it. Like new.
I would let it go for $75.00. Not sure how you would like to get it to Southern Oregon. Ship?

Not really. The tank is on a chiller now. It is still pretty well ventilated in the garage. In the summer I run a fan from the window to keep the air circulating. I still evap about 3 gallons a day, but from over 300 gallons of total volume, that is not bad. When the 72 bow was in the house you could feel the dampness on the furniture. I couldn't believe how much water the dehumidifier pulled out of the air. The difference was night and day.

good to know. thanks

Thanks for the offer Jay. But I think shipping would be outrageous as well as gas money to get there. Do you know if these things are also rated for square footage for a house? Or does that correspond with the amount that it pulls from the air? Thanks

Ya, no kiddin. Actually, I just figured out that I have something better than a dehumidifier in my home...A heat exchanger. We rarely use it. I found out that you can hook it up to a humidistat and it is very efficient at removing humidity. Anyone have any experience with these?

Updates? I am having a big problem with condensation on the windows dripping down onto the new hard wood floors....grrrr. Will a dehumid. help?

I picked up chiefs dehumidifier and my windows are clear as glass now. I got a 20 liter per day it didn't do much, but the 50 liter per day worked much better but its really, really loud so be prepaired to find a place that you can live with the noise.
so you know my house is 1100 sq ft and the tank is 155 gallon (give you an idea of my water problem)

Cool. Do you keep the dehumidifier in the same room as the tank or is out somewhere else?
Nyles
01-15-2007, 09:04 AM
for now same room. I was running the 20 liter in the main bedroom, but ran without it and the 50 still keeps the rooms dry as long as you open the doors. Now I just need an outdoor humidity reader so I know when I can open the outside doors, even though thats not going to happen till i warms up.

That my problem, if i could open the windows it would be fine. Obviously I will not be doing that until it gets warmer. :)

There is one bonus, in my house the dehum combo'd with the tank keeps the house fairly warm all day... lol. Just need to fire up pellet stove 2-3 hours in the am to get it up to temp.

I am glad I went with the 40 liter then...It is somewhat loud...but I only run it, when I am not home and while I am sleeping...so it works out fairly well...

Ya I was very impressed with the bionaire 20, I could sleep with it in my bedroom right next to the bed, it was extremely quiet, it just didn't have the performance I needed with a fishtank. I returned it and they gave me my money back for the unit and shipping, how nice of them :D

Yeah, for as big as my bionaire 40 is, it is fairly quiet and well worth the 120 bucks shipped...

I have a dehumidifier running 24/7, it's a 25 pinter.
It pulls most all of the moisture out of the air, no problems with sweaty windows or mildew on the drapes.
We've been using this unit for well over two years with no problems.

Does everyone who has this problem run MH's? Or is it single pane windows?
I've got a 125g with 440w VHO 12hrs/day with no window moisture or mildue problems whatsoever! Just curiuos.
Frogger
01-15-2007, 07:45 PM
I have a 100 with VHO's and didn't have the problem until I added another 100 setup with 250 mh's which made the double pane windows extremely wet.

It all has to do with your evaporation of tank and airflow through house. If you have central air its less of a problem if you can cycle the air but I have a heat pump only so the same air is circulated and humidity stays inside, I am running t-5 with about 2 gallons evap a day into room.
