Hello Everyone!
I know I haven't been on in a while, but it doesn't mean I haven't forgotten the club or that I promised a meeting at my place again this year.
I am thinking May 8th or 15th, just need to see what everyone thinks and whomever sets up meetings to PM me. Probably around noon giving people plenty of time to get here (Springfield) and get home.
I am going to plan ahead this time and should be able to get a lot of sponsors for the event with goods and corals as giveaways. I believe last time everyone left with at least 2 giveaways!
I will also be doing a BBQ again.
I thought it would also be a nice opportunity for everyone to see the changes to the tank - 16 AI SOL Blue LED Lighting System, ATB 18 Deluxe Skimmer, etc.
I would also be interested in setting up some smaller tanks for people to use for coral trading, I will set them up with fresh Saltwater and have plastic bags for transporting.

Definitely would love feedback from everyone as to what would be good to have at the meeting and who might attend (to get a general number).

I just read about SeaMax coming to Seattle, very cool!
Maybe I can get a couple of tickets donated to the meeting, just have to find out who to contact.

I went last year and the meeting and BBQ was one of the best meetings I've been to (Westsides BBQ was the Best). His system is way more than anybody I've seen in a house. Everybody must see it.

I would love to go again! Last year was a good turn out for the meeting plus it is down south for those that can't make it north very often.
I also would suggest you do it on the 15th since the 8th is Mothers Day.

Let me know what you need help with and I'll do my best to help out.

Sounds like May 15th is the day. I definitely wanted to get it down as early as possibly so people could plan accordingly and hopefully those that would normally work will be able to get some time off. Maybe a teaser email can be sent out early so that everyone has plenty of advanced notice?
Anyway, I will start working on the plans in the next couple of weeks and will update this thread.

Anyone else from Vancouver planning to go?

oxx155
03-21-2011, 09:33 PM
I am going to have 2 tanks setup for Frag Swaps. Fresh Seawater and Plastic Bags will be available.
I am also thinking of having a table available for people to bring used equipment for sale. I am not sure how to run this or keep it controlled, so I am open to ideas.
I also have plenty of time to talk to vendors about donations, so I have a feeling there will be even more giveaways then there was last year. Hopefully I can get a lot of local businesses throughout Oregon to represent at the meeting.
Anybody interested in donating please PM me. I will be happy to put up any and all literature and promote each and every vendor that donates throughout the party and this forum.
I have plenty of room for everyone and parking shouldn't be a problem. But, I do encourage everyone to take as much time as possible in arranging car pooling to save gas and parking.
Hopefully NeptuneSys will have another software update out and I can fully control my AI SOL LED lights and show everyone what they can do, I should have 16 setup by the time of the meeting.
I am also really using the Apex to its fullest potential and may be able to take some time to talk about automation.
If anyone can bring something for the BBQ please post it here so we don't have too many people double up. Obviously the simple stuff like chips, dips, sides, soda, juice, desserts, etc. I plan on cooking up Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Chicken Burgers, Veggi Burgers, Veggi Dogs, and maybe some Ribs if I can get my friend to run the BBQ. Maybe my father will cook up some of his great brisket (he smokes it overnight). Chairs are always welcome, if you can bring your own fold up chair please do, who knows how many people are going to come and I only have so many.
I know meetings in the past have had speakers and/or presentations, and we tried that last year, but it just didn't work out. I really don't think it will work out again this year with so many other things I have going on, so I do appreciate any and all offers, but I think we'll keep it simple and just have an awesome party.
I have no problems with people bringing cameras and taking photos, even if anyone wants to show others how to take great photos would be nice.
Party is going to start around noon and will probably start to break down between 3-4p.m. Hopefully this will give everyone plenty of time to get here and get home.

So far I have donations from;
Drs Foster & Smith
Hikari
Upscales
Westside
Coral Reef Petcenter
Barrier Reef

Thank you so much to the sponsors so far! I hope everyone shows their appreciation by either thanking those companies online or in person.

I am also going to start a poll in another thread about the possibility of having a "Give-Away" table. People can bring anything aquarium related that they are no longer using (just taking up space) and give it away to someone else that might be able to use it. I know we all have some stuff just sitting around that we might just throw away, why not let someone else get some use out of it that might really need it but maybe can't afford it or couldn't find it. I know I will have some stuff.

Anyway, I will try to keep this thread updated.

No it's not a bad idea at all. I did that at the meeting at our house and believe me I'm not a nametag person. Some people protested but overall everyone was a good sport. Looking forward to this one.

If someones willing to bring the tags I have no problem with it. I don't want to make it "mandatory" though. Last time we went round robin around and everyone introduced themselves, took a little bit of time though.

I will have a little bounce ball pit available for little kids at the meeting. Just tested it out at my sons birthday party this last weekend and more adults played in it than children, LOL. I also rented an ice cream machine that I will probably rent again for the meeting, delicious Lochmead ice cream on a cone! I also have my pool setup, but unless its really warm (even though it is heated) its probably going to be closed off.

If you have any fold up chairs you can bring with you that would be great, I am sure I won't have enough.

I will soon be posting a list of not only all the sponsors of the meeting but what they have donated! Its amazing the generosity of all the companies this year!

I think we need a cadre of Eugene/Springfield reefers to help out Douglas before the meeting.

It could be "Celebrity Aquarist" (I have my birth certificate). We would break up into teams and do tasks that "The Douglas" assigns. I have dibs on being Gary Bussy!

Thanks everyone for the offers of help! Here is a list of things I could use
1. Ice (probably about 5-6 bags)
2. Drinks - Pepsi, Coke, Dr. Pepper, Rootbeer (for possible rootbeer floats)
3. Chairs - I probably have seating for about 25 or so, so if people can bring their own camping or fold up chairs that would be great
I really can't think of anything else at this time.

I can bring a case of water and root beer from costco Doug. Ice would probably better be brought by the local folks. Do you need plates? I don't have any folding chairs but will probably be standing most of the time checking everything out. I also still have a roll of raffle tickets from a prior fundraiser if you need them.

I had not planned on going to the meeting but it is sounding really great!!! How far is Springfield from the Portland area???? I may look into going...

BUT in case I still don't get to go.......

is there anyone that IS going that would be able to pick up the micromussa for me that KMiller is selling and I could then pick it up from you later on Sunday???? Let me know if that would work for anyone....

Thanks!
Jenni

Jenni, I am picking up all kinds of things LOL so one more frag won't be a problem. I could get it for you and you could pick it up Sunday evening. I already have one person coming over to the house anyway. Just let me know so I can write it down LOL.

Really?? that would be great!! I would LOVE to go to the meeting too, but I am supposed to have plans... if they fall through I may think about coming.

OTHERWISE... I would love it if you could pick up the red micromussa from KMiller for me. I will let him know that you are getting it for me... I will send him payment beforehand of course! :)

Thanks, Kim!

Hey Douglas. Think it would be worthwhile to contact the Register Guard (our local paper) and see if they would like to do a story on the meeting? The story would be about what happened at the meeting and to build up interest in PNWMAS. NOT PREVIOUS to the meeting.

Might make an interesting photo rich story for them.

Maybe they could talk to you and an officer of the club? Just putting it out there.

LOL, I wouldn't even know who to contact at the Register Guard, and I think if its going to promote the club (like it should) it should be Michael7979 setting it up. I have no problem with it though, I am all for getting more people involved in the club.

Wow Franklin, you media whore! I never would have guessed. HAHAHA

How insulting!

I am; "The Official Male Courtesan To The Weekly World" and I demand an apology forthwith.

A local TV station may be even better? All we need is a spokesman for the club and Douglas for quick interviews?

Be nice to His Royness!

I just contacted the Eugene Register Guard and KVAL TV to see if they were interested and Roy agreed to do the mouthpiece work if needed. KVAL wasn't sure since he said he was short staffed on the weekend. I told him I wasn't interested in his physical problems. We shall see?

I had a great time! Thanks everyone for coming and I am so glad everything got taken away and will be used, cleanup was easy.
My interview with KVAL will be on tonight at 6:30p.m. promoting the club, and I think they are posting it on KVAL.com. For those that want to see a video of the tank, that would be the place to find it.

Thanks to everyone for coming! It was a great meeting and I was happy to see everyone enjoying themselves and meeting everyone involved in this great club!
BIG THANKS to all the sponsors for all the great goodies and coupons! I encourage everyone to take a second and either personally or through email thank the sponsor that donated the item you got, it would mean a lot to them.

Thought I would take a second to address the Sea Dwelling Creatures coupon - It is something that not only SDC but all the LFS I talked to liked and agreed would benefit everyone. I hope that those that did get the coupon use it.

I guess I should start thinking about next year and how to top this year, LOL
