I think Walmart has downloads for 99 cents a piece. I took all my cds and downloaded them on my laptop then put them on my mp3 player. My hubby says if you have a Apple Ipod then you have to use their downloads only. Not sure if they have changed that or not....

nah, you dont have to use thier downloads only, you can import any of your own files. I do believe there is some stand alone software also out there so you dont have to use Itunes either. Personally Itunes works just fine for me.
Ive put many many CDs, Videos, Pictures and dl'd music from Itunes on it. Works great.
There are many things that you can do to it. Here's a site to get you started...

There are many more, just do a search. You can convert movies and watch it on your ipod. I don't have an ipod though (not planning to), waiting on the iPhone to come out, then maybe I'll consider it.

Anapod Explorer (http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/) is a good iPod utility for Windows. I like it...
