Does anyone have any experience with this lens? I'm being pushed to put my 20 year old OM-2 35mm out to pasture and can across this lens from Nikon. It looks like a very nice beginning point to begin putting together a digital system.

Thanks for the link. Andy are you still going to set up the photoshop class?
Yes, I am -- but my D70 has a problem (http://www.nikonusa.com/email_images/nikonusa/service_advisory/d70.html) and I need to get it back before I can really get rolling.
I'm thinking I might break it up into two sessions, one for shooting and the other for post-processing/workflow.

Do you have any recommendations as to camera shops in the Portland area? Not much of a choice here in Corvallis.

Thanks for the link.
No problem. They're really great at Pro Photo. Very knowledgable and helpful, plus you can rent gear to try it out on your own schedule.

camera shops are great for getting info as to which camera is best for your needs but the prices usually are MUCH higher than a big box store such as circuit city or best buy.
Right, but going to a camera shop to graze their brains for info then buying at a warehouse or online is a pretty rotten thing to do.

I just went to a local camera store last night and their camera prices were exactly the same as what I could get online and the lens I was looking at was about $200 less that some of the online places. The only problem was that they didn't have the lens in stock. My experience recently has been that most local places have to compete pricewise with he big online places. The real disadvantage is that their selection is not what the online places have. I wish I could find 4x5" velvia locally.

Too bad all the great camera shops have gone out of business. (sad)

good to know that the prices are competitive....one of the few items that specialty shops compete in pricewise then. Although i will admit there are many advantages to buying from a small individual dealers such as knowledge of the product and help if any problems arise with your purchase.
