Drilled glass 75g

Well i finally got around to drilling my new tank. I put 5 45mm holes in it, thanks for letting me borrow the holesaw Jay!!!! It was a piece of cake.

First i spaced out where the holes will be and traced the inside of the gasket for a guide

The holesaw skates all over the glass scratching it with no guide, so i made one out of wood

It took me about 20 minutes to do all 5. The last picture looks like the glass is cracked. I ran outside as soon as i saw the pic to check the tank LOL (laugh) Its just the left over water pooled up.

Now the schedule 80 bulkheads are slightly larger than the holes. So i'm trying to locate ones that will fit better. Otherwise i will have to use my dremel to make each hole a bit larger, that will take some time.

Looks good. Check out www.usplastics.com for a good selection of bulkheads, they have the think Hayward ones and they are the normal size holes.

so you did that with a 45 mm glass hole saw? I want to drill my 40 stretch hex but was unsure of which size bit to use for 1" bulkheads. And, does anyone have any suggestions as to how many holes and where to put em? I am using a 15 gallon sump and want minimal PH's (if any) in my tank.

Yah 45mm. That equates to like 1.77" and i'm going to order bulkheads off savko.com that fit 1.75" holes. They are 1" bulkheads. Plus i'm getting the locline fittings, strainers and nozzles at the same time, it still $25 cheaper than the sch 80 ones i was going to use.

It really is easy! After you get the first hole done you'll see how easy it is. The rest is a piece of cake.

If you need it larger, your welcome to use my rotozip with the ceramic / glass cutter blade. Thats what I used to cut all my holes in my tank. Works fast, no chips, just need water and it cuts like butter!

Thanks! Too late though, i've already ordered the bulkheads that fit the holes i drilled. I tried using my dremel to make them a little larger, but it was taking forever so i ditched the idea, took the sched 80 bulkheads back, and got the sch 40 ones.

I'm currently waiting on the bulkheads to arrive. I ordered them a week ago, they shipped 2. I haven't even gotten the 2!! But i plan to move the stand and tank into place this weekend and begin on the plumbing, get the topoff res in place, that sorta stuff. I might build some rock lifts too.
