External skimmer

Hey guys.
I need to mount my skimmer external from my sump, due to height issues with my tank stand. I'm going to place it in a rubbermaid container.
It will be about 10" from the sump and elevated above the water level of the sump.
Any input would be welcome,good or bad.
If I have a flood I'm so dead(I'll be sleeping with the fishes......Badda bing...in the garage).

Mine is set up that way too. Gravitiy fed to the skimmer box and then gravitiy fed to the sump. Heres a picture. Maybe this will help you, I haven't had a problem with this set-up (knock on wood).
