Very cool! I wonder what percentage of lighting they reduce. They seem pretty clear, but there's got to be some reduction.

Nnewhouse, I wish I knew that before you came over. The only reason I don't have any sand sifting gobies is because all the one's I had before jumped.
Very good idea! This morning I found my Pygmy dwarf angel crispy...(sad) Poor Vinnie....

Thank you for the post Eric. I have lost firefish, wrasses, and jawfish over the years due to their jumping out.
1/2" eggcrate did not always stop them, and fiberglass window screen cut down too much on the light. It's nice to see that a 1/4" mesh screen and plastic frames are now available.
That's funny this came up because I was just chatting to Ryan about it.
Here's the thread from the guy who sells the supposed real deal polypropylene mesh at reasonable sizes (apparently you have to buy it in bulk otherwise):

Before I PM him to order some, you guys know of a local source?

Thanks for sharing this wonderful idea. I was just about ready to order glass tops then I saw this. I like this method much better.

Very slick and easy. My kind of DIY.
I'll buy some from you, as well, if you get it Eric. I'll just need about 12" by 30" (plus trim).
I'd buy some too maybe a bunch for later tanks even. Useful looking stuff

Any update on a group buy for this?
If not i found a place to get 1/4" mesh in black by the foot

I'd prefer clear but if its black no biggie.
wannareef is making me a set of these for me for my 72" tank. He knows a guy that will ship it to you. I think I paid like $35 for enough to cover my tank. Don't have the guys email anymore buy ask wannareef for the guys contact info. Great guy and great to deal with

Hmm probably the same guy Eric linked in the first post?
$35 for a couple of square yards of screen? Whoa. If this group buy is anywhere even close to that cost I'm out :O

Probably includes the frame too, at least i would hope.
The guy has it for .85/ft plus $5 shipping.
I would rather do a buy with some members of the club.

Here's a link to another guy at Nano-Reef.com making them for a sort of reasonable price. Lots of pics in the thread to get ideas from.

Anyone else interested in some of this? I'm not sure how bulk reef sells it yet but I only need a little bit. I also contacted the guy on reef2reef to compare prices.

I bought some awhile back from brs. Our was enough to do two tanks for about ten bucks. But you still need the frames and whatnot.

I think HD, Lowes and most local hardware stores carry the frames and roller tool.
